Fraudsters launched a fake distribution of bitcoins under the guise of Apple presentation
September 7, on the day of the IPhone 14 presentation, unknown launched the broadcast of the old interview with CEO Apple https://gagarin.news/news/what-is-tx-id-and-what-is-it-for/ Tim Cook in an attempt to kidnap cryptocurrencies under the guise of their distribution. Attackers took the old interview with CNN for CNN from 2018 as the basis of Stream.
They also added to the video stream logos of bitcoin and Ethereum and the inscription “Urgent news”.
The URL page of the Apple Live channel had nothing to do with the original company.
Users said that the stream was displayed on the YouTube home page. This was probably due to their recent requests on the current topic. In addition to the announcement of the iPhone 14 at the same time, Tim Cook gave an interview at the Vox Media Code conference.
Fraudsters tried to force users to follow the link that leads to a dubious website that advertises cryptocurrency fraud.
In the moment, the number of spectators of the broadcast reached 70,000 people, but the number of real victims of fraud is not called.
Within a few hours, YouTube deleted the stream for violation of service conditions.
The Verge discovered another live broadcast on a separate channel on behalf of Apple Inc. There was an interview about Bitcoin with Musk and the head of Block Jack Dorsie from 2021, and links led to a fake cryptocurrency site. The number of spectators at the peak exceeded 10,000. This stream was also deleted by the Youtube Administration.
Recall that the other day, attackers hacked the Twitter account of the audit company PwC Venezuela to promote fake distribution XRP on behalf of CEO Ripple Brad Harlinghaus.
Eight hours after the administration’s incident, it was possible to restore access to the page and delete phishing links.
